In a packed Mayflower Bookshop, Prof. Ingrid Tieken fascinated all present Jane Austen fans with her fascinating talk on the wills of Jane Austen, Jane’s mother and her sister Cassandra. Giving us a glimpse of 18th English society, she showed us a world where older single women, spinsters or widows found a way of taking care of each other financially by means of wills and legacies. Not only the subject, but also the enthusiasm of Tieken for her subject mesmerized the spellbound audience. Both a literary and a historical lecture, no wonder that so many people flocked to Mayflower Bookshop on this rainy Sunday afternoon. What better way to spend it than with Jane Austen?
