The sixth lecture in Mayflower Bookshop’s Great Crime series will be given by Coco Hoek. Her lecture, in Dutch, will examine that greatest of all French fictional detectives, Commissaire Maigret. But not just Maigret!

She will give an introduction to the life of his creator, Georges Simenon, and take a close look at one of his most baffling cases, The Yellow Dog. But while Maigret was the undisputed King of Crime-solving for more than half a century, we cannot overlook the fact that took his well-earned retirement in the 1970’s. Does that mean that one now gets away with murder in France?

No! Maigret has many successors, and one of them, Commissaire Dupin, lives and works in Bretagne, in the very town of Concarneau where Maigret solved the case of The Yellow Dog.

Coco Hoek will take you on a virtual trip to Concarneau, where you will meet two commissaires and two authors. And we will look into two crimes. You’ll discover differences, similarities, and dark deeds. The Case of the Lying Midwife, The Case of the Man in the Fog, and The Case of the Stolen Plot – but is there a stolen plot?
